Lighting Their Path to Hope: Fund the Fight Gala 2025

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, Lighthouse for Life hosted our Fund the Fight Gala, and the evening was nothing short of powerful. Together, our community gathered not only to raise funds, but to stand shoulder to shoulder in the fight against human trafficking and to celebrate the hope that is breaking through the darkness.

Voices That Led the Way

The night began with words of encouragement and vision from several community leaders:

Beth White, our Board Chair, opened the evening with a reminder of why we gather—to bring light to the darkness and stand for freedom.

Pastor Daniel Dickard, lead pastor of Shandon Baptist Church, warmly welcomed everyone and prayed over the needs of our ministry.

Jen Thompson, our former CEO, shared a glimpse into Lighthouse for Life’s history—reminding us just how far God has brought this ministry since its founding.

The “Backpacks” Drama

One of the most moving moments of the evening came through a dramatic performance called “Backpacks.” In it, actors illustrated the heavy burdens that survivors of trafficking often carry—represented by rocks weighing down a backpack. These burdens included people who abused and exploited her, people she had met along the way while living in “the life,” experiences she had that caused trauma, and even a rock that represented hope.

The drama powerfully captured how difficult it can be for survivors to believe in and accept hope, even when it’s offered. Yet it also revealed the beauty of release—when those burdens are lifted, healing and restoration can begin.

Testimonies of God’s Work

After the drama, our CEO Lisa Kejr took the stage to share what God has been doing through Lighthouse for Life this past year. From prevention education in schools and churches, to walking alongside survivors in their journey of restoration, to equipping professionals to spot the signs of trafficking—God’s hand has been evident in every step.

Following her words, the audience watched a celebration video capturing highlights of the past year while Alison Burns and Kailyn Horn filled the room with hope through a live performance of a song declaring that God truly makes a way.

A Response of Generosity and Light

The evening culminated in two powerful moments:

The Flashlight Demonstration – To close the evening, the room went dark. Then, one by one, flashlights began to shine as guests raised their lights to symbolize their commitment to join the fight. Soon, the room was filled with light—an unforgettable picture of how each of us, together, can drive out darkness.

The Giving Response – Guests had the opportunity to respond by fueling the mission financially. The generosity displayed will directly fund education, survivor care, and our safe house initiatives in the year to come. The Lord provided over $110,000 for the ministry through the generosity of our donors!
